"How the Media Failed Women in 2013," courtesy of Miss Representation. This is mind-boggling and you must watch it right now.
THIS IS SO FUCKING IMPORTANT
There’s a lot of important and interesting things in here, but I can’t help but notice how incredibly geared it is towards the marginalization and misrepresentation of white women. The overt portrayal and hypersexualization of all women in the media is problematic, yes, but what about the distinct ways in which women of color are hypersexualized—the “Asian Gurlz” music video, the comments made about Miss America being of South Asian descent? Not to mention this underlying assertion that women of color expressing any form of their sexuality—in Rhianna twerking—is just as exploitative and problematic as Robin Thicke singing about breaching lines of consent.
Basically If we’re going to have a dialogue about how the media failed women, we have to include how a lot of the white-defined “feminist” media assumes women of colour experience the same struggles and media misrepresentation as white women—subsequently failing to represent WoC because of that.

Walking Dead Survival Tip: Don’t have a close relationship with Daryl Dixon, or Rick Grimes will leave your ass behind. (Seriously, with Michonne cracking jokes with Daryl now I wouldn’t be surprised if Rick left her in the forest next.)
